A report released Saturday revealed Aaron Hernandez had been sexually molested and abused as a boy.
According to the Boston Globe, Hernandez told his brother Jonathan and one of his criminal lawyers that he was sexually abused when he was young. Neither person was willing to identify the alleged abuser.
The report also revealed that both Aaron and Jonathan Hernandez were beaten by their father Dennis throughout their childhood. At times, the beatings coincided with Dennis’ drinking.
The Globe also spoke to one of Hernandez’ childhood teammates, Dennis SanSoucie, who claimed he had a homosexual relationship with Hernandez in middle school and high school. Neither said anything about the relationship and tried to hide it.
The relationship coincided with Hernandez’ marijuana use, which began with a teammate in high school. According to the report, he smoked before school, before practice and after games.
The Globe discovered this information as it prepared a six-part series on Hernandez, who was serving a life sentence for murdering Odin Lloyd when he killed himself in his jail cell in April 2017.
The series garnered its information by scouring court documents, listening to Hernandez’ phone calls from jail, and through interviews with family and friends.
Hernandez had just been found not guilty of two counts of murder in the killing of two men in a drive-by shooting outside a Boston nightclub at the time of his suicide.
