Jets RB Bilal Powell expected to 'recover fully' from neck injury

Jets place RB Bilal Powell on IR with potentially career-ending neck injury

Jets running back Bilal Powell did not sustain a career-threatening neck injury.

Powell was placed on injured reserved Wednesday, and New York head coach Todd Bowles told reporters it was because he suffered a neck injury that required surgery.

Bowles said the injury may be career-threatening, but corrected himself Thursday saying he misunderstood the diagnosis.

“It was just a misunderstanding of things,” Bowles said, via the New York Post. “He’s expected to recover fully.”

Powell rushed for 343 yards on 80 carries this season with no touchdowns. He also caught 10 passes for 110 yards with a score.

The 29-year-old has spent all eight of his seasons with the Jets. He was drafted by New York in the fourth round in 2011.
