The 49ers then signed Dayes to their practice squad. He tallied 13 yards on five carries and returned 18 kickoffs as a rookie with the Browns last season.
San Francisco starter Matt Breida sprained his ankle in his team’s 28-18 loss to the Cardinals last weekend. He is “doubtful” to play against the Packers in Week 6, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters Monday.
Breida has registered 369 yards on the ground and two total touchdowns in five games in 2018.
The 49ers also lost running back Jerick McKinnon for the season after he suffered a torn ACL in an early September practice.
