NFL trade rumors: Browns sending Carlos Hyde to Jaguars

The Jaguars are moving to fill the hole left by Leonard Fournette’s continued absence, acquiring running back Carlos Hyde from the Browns.

A Jaguars spokesman confirmed the deal via Twitter, saying Jacksonville is sending a fifth-round pick to the Browns in the deal.

While the move shores up the Jaguars’ backfield with Fournette continuing to rehab an injured hamstring, it also frees up rookie Nick Chubb for more carries in Cleveland.

The second-round pick has just 16 carries through six games, and Browns fans have been vocal about wanting to see more from the 22-year-old — particularly since he exploded for 63- and 41-yard touchdown runs against the Raiders in Week 4.

But the veteran Hyde has carried the bulk of the load for Cleveland, and now he’ll head to Jacksonville to join T.J. Yeldon in lieu of Fournette, who has been ruled out this week after being active twice in the Jaguars’ first six games.
