Penguins to wear patch honoring shooting victims

The Penguins will wear special uniform patches in Tuesday’s game against the Islanders in remembrance of the victims of the Tree of Life synagogue shooting.

The patch, bearing the words, “STRONGER THAN HATE,” shows the triangle in the Penguins’ logo modified into a Star of David.

In addition, the team will also collect donations and hold a 50-50 raffle. And each player will sign his game-worn jersey, which will be auctioned off at The auction will continue until Nov. 13. All proceeds will benefit the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh and a fund established by the City of Pittsburgh to benefit police officers wounded during the attack.

Eleven people were killed and nine injured during the Saturday morning attack at the synagogue in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood. It is the deadliest attack on the Jewish community in U.S. history. Robert Gregory Bowers has been charged with dozens of federal and state crimes in connection with the mass shooting.
