The show must go on.
Despite concerns regarding the state of the playing surface at Estadio Azteca, the NFL is determined that the Week 11 clash between the Chiefs and Rams will be played in Mexico City.
“We are working closely with the field manager at Azteca Stadium and others to ensure that we have an NFL-quality surface for our game, and we are looking forward to kicking off in Mexico City on Monday night,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a statement, via ESPN.
ESPN noted that moving the game to Los Angeles is also an option that will be considered this week before a final decision is made.
According to Yahoo Sports, which cited unidentified sources from each team, a Shakira concert at the venue Oct. 11 “left the grass surface in significant disrepair.”
With both teams 9-1 and featuring two of the most productive offenses in the league, the game easily is one of the most anticipated matchups of the season.
The Rams will serve as the home team when they take on the Chiefs at 8:20 p.m. ET Monday.
