The Chiefs could get a defensive boost ahead of their meeting with the AFC West rival Raiders.
According to NFL Media, Kansas City is hopeful that safety Eric Berry will return to practice this week as he prepares to ramp up his workouts.
The news comes just two days after the Kansas City Star reported that Berry “almost certainly” will get on the field heading into Week 13, though it’s unlikely he’ll suit up in Oakland.
Berry suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in the team’s season-opening win over the Patriots and has remained sidelined since. His potential return would bolster a position that has a sizable void due to injury all season, though the Chiefs are still expected to exercise caution with Berry’s injury.
Berry, who turns 30 next month, has been rocked by injuries in recent seasons but still managed to earn five Pro Bowl and three All-Pro selections in his nine-year career.
The Chiefs dropped to 9-2 with their loss to the Rams in a historic offensive showdown last Monday, but should have no trouble getting back on track when they visit the 2-8 Raiders in Week 13 action.
