NBA trade rumors: Heat, 76ers could ‘re-emerge’ in discussions for Jimmy Butler

The Heat and 76ers could jump back into the Jimmy Butler sweepstakes.

There’s “belief around the NBA” that both Philadelphia and Miami could “re-emerge” in discussions with the Timberwolves to potentially deal for the 29-year-old forward, according to a report from The Athletic.

The Timberwolves reportedly came close to sending Butler to the Heat on two separate occasions in early October, but those negotiations eventually broke down. Minnesota reportedly wanted Ben Simmons from the 76ers in exchange for the four-time All-Star.

The Rockets also reportedly offered Minnesota four future first-round picks, as well as Brandon Knight and Marquese Chriss, for Butler. The Timberwolves, however, rejected that proposal.

Butler asked to be moved by Minnesota in mid-September and missed most of the team’s training camp. He returned before the start of the regular season and has averaged 22 points and 4.9 rebounds in eight games.

Butler was selected by the Bulls with the 30th pick in the 2011 draft. He spent the first six seasons of his career in Chicago before he was dealt to the Timberwolves in June 2017.

The Timberwolves enter their game Wednesday against the Lakers with a 4-7 record.
