Matt Murray will likely be missing in action until 2019.
The Penguins on Thursday placed the goaltender on injured reserve with a lower-body injury.
Pittsburgh recalled fellow goalie Tristan Jarry from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on an emergency basis in a corresponding move.

“This is something that he’s been dealing with for a couple of weeks,” coach Mike Sullivan said. “The decision was made this morning to rest and see if that gives him an opportunity to heal.”
Murray, who suffered a concussion last month, is expected to be out long-term. He has a 4.08 GAA and .877 save percentage in 11 games this season as he split time with backup Casey DeSmith.
Jarry, 23, has a 2.89 GAA and .909 save percentage through 11 games in the AHL this season. He previously played 26 games for the Penguins last season.
The Penguins (8-8-4) are at the Bruins (11-6-4) at 7:30 p.m. ET Friday.
