Raiders QB Derek Carr wants to 'mess up the draft'

The Raiders may have lost their season, but tanking isn’t part of Derek Carr’s plans.

While speaking to reporters Wednesday, the Oakland quarterback said he has no interest in his 2-8 team losing its way to a top-five pick in next year’s draft when asked what he wants his offense to accomplish over the final six weeks of the season.

“I just want to win. I want to mess up the draft. I don’t want the first pick,” Carr said, via NFL Media. “I want to win all these games. I want everybody to be mad at me for that. That’s what I want to accomplish.”

The struggling Raiders already boast a trio of first-round selections for April’s draft, but Carr just wants the current squad to keep the momentum and positivity going.

“For us as an offense it’s really just building continuity,” Carr said. “We’ve got a lot of young guys playing. We’ve got a lot of new guys playing. I just think it’s so cool what an opportunity we have. Everyone sees what’s going on, what we’re having to deal with, but why not just go out and win some games? That would be so cool for this group to be able to hold onto.”

Oakland has struggled this season in coach Jon Gruden’s first back with the team, but snapped a three-game losing streak with a 23-21 win at Arizona last week.

The Raiders (2-8) will next visit the Lamar Jackson-led Ravens (5-5) in Week 12 action.
