McNair died Friday at age 81 after a lengthy battle with cancer. No cause of death was announced, but a statement by the Texans noted he “passed away peacefully.”
The businessman paid $700 million for the Houston expansion franchise in 1999 and had been the team’s CEO and team chairman since.
The Texans play their first game since McNair’s passing Monday night at home against the Titans, and McNair will be honored with tributes before the game. The Texans are requesting fans be in their seats by 7 p.m. local time for the start of the tribute.
