Erik Karlsson is getting some extra time off for Christmas.
The Sharks defenseman has been suspended two games for his illegal check to the head on Kings winger Austin Wagner, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced Sunday.
The hit occurred in the second period of Saturday’s 3-2 overtime loss to Los Angeles, though no penalty was called on the play. Wagner left the game and did not return.
The ban is Karlsson’s first in his nine-year NHL career.
