Nathan MacKinnon simply mishandled things.
After the Avalanche assistant captain was caught on tape appearing to yell “do your f—ing job” at coach Jared Bednar in Colorado’s loss to Calgary on Wednesday, MacKinnon was apologetic when speaking to reporters Friday.
MacKinnon told the Associated Press he was mad at himself when he saw replays of the incident where he looked “like an idiot screaming,” and made sure to emphasize everyone in the locker room loves playing for Bednar.

The 23-year-old did say he thought the team should have pulled the goalie earlier in the 5-3 loss to the Flames, but acknowledged he mishandled the situation.
Bednar spoke to reporters after the incident as well and said he wasn’t bothered and he respected MacKinnon’s “fire, passion and emotion.”
The Avalanche started the year on fire opening the season with a 6-1-2 record through their first nine games and a 16-6-5 mark through 27.
But, since then, Colorado has gone 4-10-3 over its last 17 games and now sits in a wild-card spot after leading the division early in the year.
