Kilff Kingsbury talks Josh Rosen, David Johnson during Cardinals introduction

In an interesting move Tuesday, the Cardinals announced Kliff Kingsbury as the team’s new head coach.

Kingsbury was fired by Texas Tech after the Red Raiders finished the 2018 season 5-7 and missed a bowl game for the third time in the last five years, then hired as USC’s offensive coordinator in December.

Team president Michael Bidwill and general manager Steve Keim point to Kingsbury’s work as an offensive coach with quarterbacks Case Keenum, Baker Mayfield and Patrick Mahomes as the main reason the organization targeted the 39-year-old Kingsbury.

Kingsbury was officially introduced Wednesday. Here are five quotes from the first-time NFL head coach outlining his plan in Arizona:

On college offense aspects bleeding into the NFL:

“That was exciting for me and that’s really why I’m here, to continue that trend and see if we can play offense at a high level doing some different things with some different creativity.”

On second-year quarterback Josh Rosen:

“Josh Rosen is incredibly talented and one of the most talented throwers you’ll see, a young player I’m excited to work with and develop. It’s hard to find a guy that throws it better.”

On running back David Johnson in his offense:

“Our deal is little more balanced. David Johnson is a tremendous asset. He’s a guy who can come out of the backfield, go between the tackles, you can motion him out, he’s a mismatch in space. I can’t wait for our offensive coaches to get their hands on him and use him as many ways as possible.”

On his affinity for working with QBs:

“I take a lot of pride in that position. I played that position and try to see it from their eyes. I want to customize the offense to what they do best and make sure they understand me as a playcaller.”

On what will be his biggest adjustment in the NFL:

“Every day you’re going to learn something new and that’s what I’m excited about. I don’t know if I can pinpoint one adjustment … Right now it’s all about doing what we can do today and that’s putting together the best staff possible.”
