Marcus Peters had unfinished business with Sean Payton.
The Rams beat the Saints 26-23 in overtime Sunday in the AFC Championship game and Peters had some words for New Orleans’ coach after the game.
The fourth-year defensive back yelled “let’s eat gumbo” at Payton while running towards him and waiving his arms, according to The Times-Picayune.
Peters addressed the incident after the game.
“I don’t even eat gumbo. I was just bulls—ing,” Peters said. “I like goulash, really, though. I like red sauce. I like goulash, no seafood, just a little bit of shrimp …. Maybe goulash will be my bowl for the night.”
Peters and Payton were also involved in a notable exchange when the Saints handed the Rams their first defeat of the season in Week 9.
Peters primarily covered Michael Thomas in that game and the Saints wide receiver racked up 211 yards and a touchdown in his team’s victory. Payton said after the game the Saints liked the matchup between Peters and Thomas “a lot.”
Peters responded to Payton’s comments later that week.
“Tell Sean Payton to keep talking that s—,” he said at the time. “We’re going to see him soon, you feel me? Because I like what he was saying on the sidelines, too. So, tell him to keep talking that s—, and I hope you see me soon. We’re going to have a nice little bowl of gumbo together.”
This time around, Los Angeles came away with the victory. It will face the Patriots in Super Bowl 53 on Feb. 3 in Atlanta, Georgia.
