Imagine what you could do with a spare $180,000. Make a downpayment on a very nice house. Pay for almost four years of tuition at an Ivy League school.
Or you could buy Super Bowl tickets. That’s what one Patriots fan did Monday, according to Darren Rovell of ActionNetwork.com. The fan reportedly spent $180,685.44, including fees, on StubHub for eight Super Bowl 53 tickets. Granted, they’re on the 50-yard line in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but that’s still a lot of money.
The average price of a ticket for Super Bowl 52 in Minneapolis was just over $2,800, according to Forbes.
Some reports last week said ticket outlets predicted a Rams-Patriots Super Bowl matchup would bring the lowest ticket prices. The Rams have the smallest fan base of any of the four teams, while the Patriots have been to nine Super Bowls in the past 17 years, ample opportunities for Pats fans to see the big game.
It’s a far cry from the first Super Bowl in 1967, when tickets went for as low as $6 face value and Los Angeles Memorial Stadium was far from sold out.
