Bruins' Brad Marchand remains distinctly polarizing in player poll

Brad Marchand is a very polarizing character. You love him or you hate him, you root for him or boo him, and you either lick him or get licked by him — most often it’s the latter.

With the NHLPA annual player poll, this was evident as Marchand was voted both the best — and worst — trash talker.

How you can be both the best and worst trash talker is difficult to explain, but if you know Marchand, it doesn’t seem so hard to believe.

Marchand characteristically was grateful for both honors.

“Feeling so honored right now all those years of hard work has paid off!!” he wrote on Twitter. “Want to thank everyone who has supported me in this journey to best and worst trash talker and all my work colleagues around the NHL couldnt have done it without you!”

Marchand is in the midst of his best season in the NHL as he has career highs in assists (56) and points (87) and has an outside chance at the first 40-goal season he has had in the league.

The Bruins are coming off of a stretch where they went 19 games without a regulation loss. They managed to do it without one of their best players, David Pastrnak.

Marchand has been a huge part of that and now he has been rewarded. It’s just a different award than many thought he would get.
