Charles Barkley didn’t mince words when talking about LaVar Ball.
The TNT analyst appeared on ESPN’s “Get Up!” Wednesday morning to discuss the fallout around the family’s Big Baller Brand, which took a massive hit last week when it was discovered LaVar’s friend and business partner, Alan Foster, reportedly stole $1.5 million from the company. This prompted Lakers guard Lonzo Ball to sever ties with the brand, scrubbing his social media accounts with anything Big Baller related and even covering up his “BBB” tattoo.
Host Jalen Smith asked Barkley his opinion about Big Baller Brand potentially folding and Lonzo Ball cutting ties with the company to “be his own man,” which prompted a harsh response from Barkley.
“Well, he should have been his own man from the beginning,” Barkley said. “You can’t let your family members try to piggyback on your success… This thing has been a disaster from Day 1 and it was never going to work. And I feel bad because it’s this ol’ big mouth, jacka— dad that’s put his kids in an awkward situation all year.
“Like I said, I don’t want to see anything bad happen to the kid, but I don’t like his dad at all and this thing has been a joke from the beginning.”

Lonzo Ball has been out since late January with an ankle injury and is not expected to return this season. He’s averaging 9.9 points and 5.4 assists while shooting 32.9 percent from 3-point range in 2018-19.
The Lakers have been eliminated from playoff contention and have a 33-41 record entering Wednesday’s game at the Jazz.
