The Pelicans’ lost season took another tough turn Thursday, as the team announced that point guard Jrue Holiday could miss up to 10 days with a lower abdominal strain.
Holiday, who scored 16 points in 32 minutes in the Pelicans’ loss to the Jazz on Wednesday night, had an MRI Thursday confirming the injury. He will be re-evaluated in seven to 10 days.
In the wake of the Anthony Davis situation, New Orleans certainly didn’t need this development. Holiday is the team’s second-leading scorer (21.2 points per game) behind Davis, and the floor leader is averaging 7.7 assists and 5 rebounds per game. The 2017-18 NBA All-Defensive first team member has also once again been a standout on that end of the floor.
Holiday has been an ironman for the Pelicans (30-37). He missed only one game last season and had yet to miss a game this year.
