Ben Roethlisberger has been subjected to lots of criticism this offseason, but another one of his teammates has come to his defense.
Third-year Steelers receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster took to social media on Monday to tweet his support for his quarterback in the wake of several notable departures from the team.
I was so blessed to enter the league and play with a Hall of Fame QB as a 20-year old. Ben has taught me so much, he’s a true Leader and I can’t wait to rock with my guy this season. pic.twitter.com/Atei8eDiZC

“I was so blessed to enter the league and play with a Hall of Fame QB as a 20-year old,” he wrote. “Ben has taught me so much, he’s a true Leader and I can’t wait to rock with my guy this season.”
Smith-Schuster’s endorsement comes after wide receiver Antonio Brown and running back Le’Veon Bell criticized Roethlisberger’s leadership style this offseason.
Bell ultimately signed a four-year deal with the Jets and Brown was traded to the Raiders where he agreed to a new contract as well.
While speaking Monday at the NFL Annual League Meeting, Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert confirmed the team is still discussing a “significant” contract extension for Roethlisberger while also affirming his faith in him as a leader.
“I think Ben is very comfortable in who he is, what he’s doing and what he can still do,” Colbert said. “Each and every year, he’s out trying to prove who he is. He’ll have no agenda other than trying to win a Super Bowl. You can’t dictate what someone will say when they are with you and when they leave. But we feel very comfortable in knowing that Ben Roethlisberger is our quarterback and is our leader.
“Ben is an unquestionable top quarterback in this league. He’s a Hall of Fame quarterback. He’s won Super Bowls. I know he’s comfortable with that, he’s comfortable with that. And we’re always going to support him in that role.”
