Marc Trestman named coach of Tampa Bay XFL team

The XFL has signed its fourth head coach.

Marc Trestman will coach Tampa Bay’s XFL franchise, the organization announced Tuesday.

Trestman joins Bob Stoops (Dallas), Jim Zorn (Seattle) and Pep Hamilton (Washington, D.C.) as the coaches hired so far by the XFL, which will begin play in 2020.

He was most recently the head coach of the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts in 2017-18. During that time, Trestman led the Argonauts to a Grey Cup title in his first year, but was fired in November after posting a 4-14 record.

He also was the head coach of the Bears from 2013-14 and compiled a 13-19 record in that span. At the end of the 2014 season he was fired.

Trestman’s last stint in the NFL was in 2015-16 when the Ravens hired him as their offensive coordinator. He was fired in October 2016.

The last four XFL teams still looking for a head coach are Houston, Los Angeles, New York and St. Louis.
