Carlos Hyde didn’t stay on the free-agent market for long.
After visiting the Chiefs on Saturday, the 28-year-old running back will sign with Kansas City. ESPN reports that the two agreed on a one-year, $2.8 million deal with $1.6 million of that guaranteed.
Hyde was released Friday by the Jaguars, who had acquired him in mid-October from the Browns for a fifth-round pick. Jacksonville added Hyde when star running back Leonard Fournette missed time because of a hamstring injury.
Hyde’s release allowed Jacksonville to save $4.7 million, though they initially tried to trade him, ESPN notes.
Selected by the 49ers in the second round of the 2014 draft, Hyde rushed for 189 yards in eight games with Jacksonville and has scored 29 touchdowns over his five NFL seasons.
