New Orleans is rumored to be adding a stout pair of playmakers.
According to NFL Media, which cited an unidentified source, the Saints are expected to sign tight end Jared Cook.
Cook, who turns 32 next month, was selected by the Titans in the third round of the 2009 draft and has had stints with the Rams, Packers and Raiders over the years. He’s coming off a career season in Oakland in which he tallied 68 passes for 896 yards and six touchdowns as one of Derek Carr’s top targets.
Sherels, 31, went undrafted in 2010 but has spent the last eight years as the Vikings’ primary punt returner.
He has averaged 10.6 yards per return and recorded five touchdowns during his time in Minnesota, averaging 12.0 yards per return last season, which put him in the league’s top five for the third time in the last six years.
Sherels will be met by familiar faces, as the Saints already signed former Vikings running back Latavius Murray and center Nick Easton in free agency.
New Orleans also re-signed Teddy Bridgewater despite the quarterback being tempted with the deal from the Dolphins.
