NFL free agency rumors: Steelers sign LB Mark Barron

Rams releasing LB Mark Barron, report says

The Steelers reportedly have reached an agreement with free agent linebacker Mark Barron, according to ESPN.

Terms of the deal were reported at two years and $12 million.

Barron was one of the unsung stars of the Rams defense last season, finishing fourth on the team in combined tackles (60) and solo tackles (43). He performed especially well in the postseason, notching nine combined tackles in the NFC championship game against the Saints and then eight tackles and a pass defensed in the Super Bowl.

The 29-year-old Barron, a former safety, was selected No. 7 overall by the Buccaneers in the 2012 but was traded to the Rams in 2014.

According to ESPN the Rams released him March 5 with the intention of re-signing him at a lower rate. Pittsburgh spoiled that plan.
