NFL trade news: Dolphins deal Ryan Tannehill to Titans

Marcus Mariota has an experienced new backup.

The Titans have acquired Ryan Tannehill from the Dolphins and signed the quarterback to a restructured one-year contract, his agents announced Friday.

According to NFL Media, Tennessee will also get a 2019 sixth-round pick in the deal, with Miami receiving a 2019 seventh-round pick and a fourth-round selection in 2020.

Tannehill’s restructured deal guarantees him $7 million in 2019 and could top $12 million with incentives, NFL Media said. ESPN reported Miami will pay $5 million of that guarantee.

Tannehill, who will turn 31 in July, had been Miami’s starter when healthy since 2012, when the Dolphins selected him with the eighth overall pick in the draft. He started 11 games last season, completing 64.2 percent of his passes for 1,979 yards with 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

His departure leaves Miami with only two quarterbacks under contract: Jake Rudock and Luke Falk.
