World, meet John Manziel.
Former NFL, CFL and AAF quarterback Johnny Manziel called into “The Dan Patrick Show” on Monday morning, and he was quick to drop in a little surprise to listeners.
“Good morning, Johnny. How are you?” host Dan Patrick asked.
After saying hello back, Manziel said: “I got a little update for you — I actually go by John these days.”
Manziel’s Twitter and Instagram handles still say Johnny, so there were no indications he was going to go by his birth name. He also went by Johnny during his recent stint in the CFL and his couple of games in the Alliance of American Football before the league suspended operations last week.
“I’m just kind of turning over the page and moving forward a little bit,” Manziel told Patrick of the name change.
It appears a lot has changed for Manziel over the past months. On top of being released from the CFL, then the AAF ending, his relationship with his wife, model Bre Tiesi, appears to have ended, as well.
“So you’re all grown up?” Patrick asked Manziel.
Manziel answered: “Getting there, I guess.”
Name change aside, Manziel said his goal is to get back on the field in one way or another and said he plans to keep working hard.
