NHL playoffs 2019: Hurricanes' Trevor van Riemsdyk injured in Game 2

The Hurricanes lost defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk less than a minute into the team’s Game 2 matchup against the Islanders on Sunday.

Van Riemsdyk was slammed into the boards by winger Cal Clutterbuck and he fell to the ice. He skated off on his own power while clutching his shoulder, but the Hurricanes later announced that he is out for the rest of the game.

Carolina will roll with five defenseman for the rest of the game. It’s unclear how severe Van Riemsdyk’s injury is and whether he will be sidelined for the rest of the playoffs.

Van Riemsdyk, 29, has played in all eight of the Hurricanes’ playoff games, but he has no goals and no assists so far.
