Patriots sign TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins, report says

Jaguars TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins bids farewell to Jacksonville with cryptic tweets

New England has a Rob Gronkowski-sized void to fill, and addressed it Wednesday by adding Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

According to a report from ESPN, which cited an unidentified source, the Patriots have signed the veteran tight end to a one-year deal.

The report noted New England also hosted wide receiver Demaryius Thomas and running back T.J. Yeldon for a visit Wednesday.

NFL Media reported Seferian-Jenkins received a $50,000 signing bonus with another $40,000 in bonuses available.

The Patriots have yet to make the move official, though Seferian-Jenkins confirmed he was signing with the team on Instagram.

While New England lost Gronkowski to retirement and released Dwayne Allen, the Patriots’ depth chart still includes Jacob Hollister, Stephen Anderson, Matt LaCosse and Ryan Izzo.

Seferian-Jenkins, 26, was initially selected by the Buccaneers in the second round of the 2014 draft but has also had stints with the Jets and Jaguars. He logged 11 catches for 90 yards and a touchdown for Jacksonville last season before going on injured reserve in October with a core muscle injury that required surgery.

He has 116 career receptions for 1,160 yards and 11 touchdowns in 43 games over five seasons.
