Trevor van Riemsdyk injury update: Hurricanes defenseman out indefinitely

The Hurricanes lost defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk less than a minute into the team’s Game 2 matchup against the Islanders on Sunday and has been listed as “out.”

It wasn’t specified if he was out for the rest of the playoffs, but NHL.com stated that he was going to be checked out by doctors on Tuesday.

It was also announced that goalie Petr Mrazek is listed as day-to-day, but forward Saku Maenalanen is out for the rest of the series.

Van Riemsdyk was slammed into the boards by winger Cal Clutterbuck and he fell to the ice. He skated off on his own power while clutching his shoulder, but the Hurricanes later announced that he was out for the rest of the game.

Van Riemsdyk, 29, has played in all eight of the Hurricanes’ playoff games, but he has no goals and no assists so far.

Carolina rolled with five defenseman for the rest of the game, which worked out for the team. The Hurricanes are up 2-0 on the Islanders in their second-round series.
