Blackhawks get Calvin de Haan, Aleksi Saarela in trade for goaltender, defenseman

The Blackhawks are making moves.

Chicago acquired defenseman Calvin de Haan and forward Aleksi Saarela from Carolina in exchange for goaltender Anton Forsberg and defenseman Gustav Forsling, the team announced Monday.

De Haan helped the Hurricanes to the Eastern Conference Finals last season and scored one goal in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

He finished the year with 13 assists in 74 regular-season games.

Saarela had a career year with the Hurricanes. He recorded career-high marks in goals (30), assists (24) and points (54) in 69 regular-season games.

Forsberg will leave Chicago after just one season with the team.

He was traded by the Blue Jackets in 2018. Forsberg appeared in 35 games with the Blackhawks last season. He finished the year with a 10-16-4 record, a 2.97 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage.

Forsling had spent all three of his professional seasons in Chicago, which picked up his rights after the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
