Broncos cancel final minicamp practice for field day

The Broncos decided to close their week by taking a break from the playbook and working on team-building.

First-year coach Vic Fangio on Thursday surprised his players by canceling the final practice of mandatory minicamp and holding a field day instead.

“Vic flipped the slide and said, ‘No practice,’ and nobody believed him, so it was dead quiet,” safety Justin Simmons said. “And then he followed through and was like, ‘For real, no practice,’ and we all started cheering.”

The planned activities included basketball, golf, water balloon fights and soaking general manager John Elway in the dunk tank.

The Jets also canceled their final day of minicamp for some fun.

The Broncos will report for training camp July 18 before facing the Falcons in the Hall of Fame game scheduled for Aug. 1 in Canton, Ohio.
