The Celtics may be looking to add a sharpshooter in the draft.
Boston has “serious interest” in selecting Kentucky guard Tyler Herro on Thursday, according to a report from Sports Illustrated, which cites unidentified league sources.
Herro averaged 14 points and 4.5 rebounds during his lone season with the Wildcats. He shot 46.2% from the field and 35.5% from 3-point range.
“At Kentucky you’ve got to make sacrifices for the team,” Herro said earlier this month, via the Indianapolis Star. “There’s usually 10 top-10 guys going there, so everyone brings something special. I brought my shooting. Other guys — Ashton (Hagans), the point guard that was there — was able to play in the pick-and-roll and make plays for others. So that’s what goes on at Kentucky.”
Herro said he’ll have the ability to expand his game at the next level.
“The spacing and things like that will showcase my talents,” Herro said. “I’ll be able to do what I do. Obviously, the NBA is going to be a much harder game. Let’s see what happens when I get there.”

The Celtics roster could undergo major changes this summer as they’re expected to lose both Kyrie Irving and Al Horford in free agency. Boston has reportedly “checked in recently” with the Rockets about a trade for center Clint Capela and looked into a potential deal for Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday, as well.
Terry Rozier will also be a restricted free agent and he’s reportedly “more than open” to re-signing with Boston if Irving leaves.
“Just looking for a team that’s going to let me be myself, a team that treats me like family and just go from there,” Rozier said during an appearance on “Jalen and Jacoby” in mid-May. “I’m not a hard person to work with. I’m a team-first type of guy. Whoever I decide to make that decision with, I’m pretty sure it’s going to be great.”
Herro is projected to be taken by the Magic with the No. 16 pick in Sporting News’ latest mock draft. The Celtics hold the No. 14, 20 and 22 selections in the first round.
