Top NFL free agent Muhammad Wilkerson was arrested in Manhattan early Saturday morning and charged with driving while intoxicated, according to ABC 7 in New York, which cited police. He was released on bond later that day.
New York Police noted Wilkerson was driving a 2019 Rolls Royce when he went through a stop sign near 168th Street and Riverside Drive. Authorities said they noticed Wilkerson’s eyes were blood shot and he had an odor of alcohol when they pulled him over.
Wilkerson told the cops, “I had a shot and two beers,” according to court documents obtained by the New York Daily News. He failed a breathalyzer test as he scored .09, which was slightly over New York’s legal limit of .08.
The 29-year-old defensive lineman became a free agent after playing for the Packers last season. He appeared in just three games and ended 2018 on Green Bay’s injured reserve list after he suffered a broken ankle in Week 3.
Wilkerson previously played for the Jets, where he spent his first seven seasons in the league after New York drafted him in the first round of the 2011 draft out of Temple. He was a two-time All-Pro and made the Pro Bowl in 2015 while playing for New York.
The defensive lineman’s next court date is scheduled for July 8.
