NBA trade rumors: Rockets, Clippers 'strongly pursuing' Andre Iguodala

Andre Iguodala is still in high demand.

The Grizzlies forward was traded to Memphis by the Warriors this offseason, and plenty of other teams want to acquire him for 2019-20. The Lakers, Rockets, Mavericks, Clippers and Nuggets have shown interest in acquiring Iguodala. But the Rockets and Clippers are the 6-7 wing’s most aggressive suitors, according to Stadium. Even those two teams have reservations though.

“The Rockets I’m told are still not comfortable and have been resisting going that deep into the luxury tax to acquire a guy like Iguodala in a potential sign-and-trade where they give up a draft pick to the Memphis Grizzlies,” Stadium’s Shams Charania said Monday. “Their tax bill could rise to upwards of $20 million by trading for Iguodala.

“The Clippers on the other hand, the only salary that makes sense for them in a trade for Iguodala in terms of shipping out is Moe Harkless — a forward that they acquired from the Portland Trail Blazers. But I’m told they do not want to part with Harkless in any type of a deal for Iguodala.”

According to the report, Houston and Los Angeles are exploring “third- and fourth-team (trade) scenarios” to acquire Iguodala.

An earlier report from The New York Times said Memphis might be willing to keep Iguodala into the regular season if it doesn’t find a suitable trade partner. It would prefer to land a future first-round pick for the 2015 NBA Finals MVP.

However he turned 35 in January and has made it clear in recent months that his days in the NBA are numbered. That’s an obvious deterrent.

Multiple teams could use a veteran with significant playoff experience like Iguodala. But they may be willing to wait and see if Memphis waives him in the final season of his three-year, $48 million contract before making a move.
