If you conduct a lengthy interview with Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield you’re bound to get some interesting quotes.
In an extensive piece by GQ profiling Cleveland’s most intriguing athlete, Mayfield committed a little QB-on-QB crime by blasting the Giants’ decision to draft Daniel Jones with the sixth pick in the 2019 draft.
“I cannot believe the Giants took Daniel Jones. … Blows my mind,” Mayfield said. “Some people overthink it. That’s where people go wrong. They forget you’ve gotta win.”
He may not look like he’d be the NFL’s scariest young quarterback, but in just one jaw-dropping season, that’s what @bakermayfield has become—all while turning the @Browns into the league’s most talked-about team https://t.co/V4DDV0MAS0 pic.twitter.com/1J8AnDTJMv

It’s not unusual for Mayfield to speak his mind, but it’s somewhat odd to hear him put down a young quarterback just one year after so many questioned whether or not Mayfield was deserving of a top-10 pick.
Mayfield, however, came into the NFL with a winning reputation after Oklahoma went 34-6 in Mayfield’s three years as a starter. Jones, meanwhile, was 17-19 as a starter at Duke.
“Either you have a history of winning and being that guy for your team or you don’t,” Mayfield told GQ.
Jones, to his defense, has played well during the preseason completing 84.2 percent of his passes (16-of-19) for 228 yards passing, two touchdowns and no interceptions.
This is Mayfield’s second run-in with the Giants this offseason. Last month in an interview with ESPN, Mayfield said new Browns receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is now in a place where he’s supported.
“He’s here to play in front of fans who actually care, who will actually show up to every game and pack the stadium and love him for who he is,” Mayfield said.
The Browns and Giants don’t play each other this season, but the two franchises will settle any dispute on the field when they play in 2020 at MetLife Stadium.
