Chase Winovich doesn’t exactly know how he’s doing what he’s doing on the field. But, the rookie continues to impress the Patriots staff.
The defensive end had another good showing in New England’s 22-17 win over Tennessee on Saturday as he recorded six tackles, one sack, and two tackles for loss.
“It’s weird. I really don’t know why I’m built like that,” Winovich told reporters after the game, via NBC Sports Boston. “It might be a gift and a curse sometimes when it’s extremely hot and they’re just trying to run the ball away … but you’ll see me just sprinting and trying to hit somebody or hit something.”
Whatever the case may be, Winovich — a third-round pick in this year’s draft — is making a good case for himself.
“Chase is a high motor player,” New England coach Bill Belichick said. “He plays hard. He’s very good in pursuit. You see it in the kicking game. You see it on defense. He’s got a good motor. He plays hard.”
Winovich was on the field for a good portion of Saturday’s game and will have two more chances to showcase his talents before the Patriots open Week 1 against the Steelers on Sept. 8.
